The framing here assumes that cheap prices is the only good and necessary benefit of competition. In fact, variation itself in the ecosystem is a good thing. You also disregard the stress put on taxpayers and the welfare system due to extreme monopolies. Ignore externalities.
Amazon currently pays a minimum $15 wage to every US employee, including part-time + seasonal workers. Last I heard, this was the living wage we were told was needed to eliminate the strain on the safety net. You have to get pretty nit-picky to call this "ignoring externalities"
Not to mention the 150,000 businesses that bring in over 100,000 from Amazon's platform (though that is another battle for some. been good for me).
And their medical expenses? Tax avoidance? Externalities vis a vi collaboration with deep state interests? Plenty of serpentine corruption to go off of here. The point is that lower prices is a limited, neoliberal framing of the abuse of the polity by these monoliths.
