Contact the media, contact lawyers, create a problem. A person rambling incoherently on the street and threatening random strangers with a weapon is not in a good place. @SFPD's handling of these cases is not humane, it's negligent.
Record *everything,* file complaints with everyone and their mother, pledge to vote out incumbents down the goddamn line, contact federal agencies if there's any feasible relevance, tell the press you are doing all of that.

I just want to feel safe when I use public transit and walk around the city. I'm not strong or fast enough to protect myself if someone decides to hurt me. It's terrifying to know that violent, impulsive men are learning that the police are broadly uninterested.
when I’ve reported crimes police expressed annoyance at me & told me they won’t do anything ab it (which discourages future reporting). I wish we had a 311 reporting app that feeds to police but is publicly transparent w all *reports* & progress to help accountability & vigilance
Threatening people with a knife is grounds for self-defense. If the city doesn't start arresting these people, and putting then in jail to get clean, then citizens will start killing them out of fear of their own lives
Record everything could be useful, but most laws prohibit recording conversations in private settings without everyone’s consent, correct?

I am not to sure about voting out incumbents. Many keep getting vote back in every election. Unless these crisis gets really out of hand, many people that created or keep this problem on existing will be back in office in the next election.
