What's the best advice you've ever received?
When in *immediate* crisis, shorten your timeline. Treat each day as a discrete project to secure your way out of the immediate problem. Expand to thinking in terms of weeks, months, etc. only when you've got a bit of solid ground underneath you

One might think this is too shortsighted to secure any meaningful change. But even as we focus on the immediate, part of our mind is always toiling away on what's next. Let that part do that work. You don't have to watch it. Trust it. After all, it's you - just unwatched.

There's something to be said for having a playbook. "Take one step at a time" is a great rule to apply. But we should apply it, and see what the consequences are. If we think about what that means in the general case, it makes it easier in any specific case.
