If it calls you, lend yourself to the expansion of better infrastructure (e.g. nuclear), the search for better batteries to unleash renewables or to transforming the atmosphere for greater flourishing — but never give up on the human project. I don't think Kant's "sapere aude!" is a great motto for the Enlightenment, but it has its moments, and this is one. How dare we? We dare to know—to create ever more knowledge and wealth—because the alternative is hell on Earth followed by certain doom. https://twitter.com/Telegraph/status/1176239886095007745 …

What you are or aren't deserving of is a distraction from what you are or aren't capable of creating. "Reduce!" is the rallying cry of a people who believe themselves unable to produce.

For every popular book on the climate crisis, why isn't there a popular book on the basics of chemistry pertaining to the atmosphere? For every MOOC on climate justice, why isn't there a MOOC on materials science for cleaner energy?

Self-loathing is the path of least resistance for a trained-complacent population. Why is there so much coverage for what people sacrifice — kids, life-extension — & so little re: anyone going nose-to-grindstone, actually trying to solve the problem they say they care about most?

We make fun of people with "crazy" ideas, criticize every feasible weakness when they start to work. But we're silent on people with no ideas at all and no demonstrable willingness to pursue them, and straight-up doting when they apologize for consuming calories and kilowatts

Call it a crazy conspiracy theory if you want, but that's why I think a lot of these "problems" are fronts for political revolution. "Doing something" about climate is of little value to those who only care about climate as a means by which to implement socialism...

I think of it as an adaptation/accommodation in the system, responding to the fact that the vast majority of us cannot actually do anything that will have significant impact.

there's a lot of hatred towards people like Elon Musk b/c... who knows. But him and the team behind him are doing something.... actually, i guess that's why there's hatred.

I live in downtown LA. A #ClimateChange march took place on Friday. It occurred to me how productive it may have been if participants would’ve cleaned the streets during the rally. Instead, more waste was created. This sign was (ironically) left behind as litter.pic.twitter.com/Oudaf6L5hC

"Productive" if you look past the dangers of blocking roadways in a major city.* Point being - people don't have to wait on the government to at least help foster a clean environment. Since living here, I've not seen those same thousands rally to clean skid row.
