I'm often a pedestrian, and I gotta say: yes, a distracted or aggressive driver can kill ya, but it seems to me that a distracted or aggressive cyclist can still fuck you up pretty badly, and as a percentage by vehicle type I'm noticing a lot more of the latter lately

Because there is no infrastructure for cyclists, they are forced into urban design that heavily favors cars, which are FAR more dangerous. If they had dedicated rights of way you wouldn't have that problem.

Agree 100%, and I'm extremely supportive of better bike infrastructure, but this doesn't justify cruising through crosswalks on a red light or speeding around on urban sidewalks, esp. where there's low visibility at corners. This really is entitled behavior.

But this dangerous environment is a product of car centric design, don’t you think? They are on sidewalks because cars frequently kill them on roads. There is low visibility at corners because of parked cars blocking sight lines.

Yes, cyclists and pedestrians alike are at great risk from reckless drivers. But no, cars don't excuse a cyclist who speeds down a sidewalk where a Starbucks is blocking visibility for perpendicular traffic, or a road cyclist who runs a red and plows through the crosswalk.
