I'm often a pedestrian, and I gotta say: yes, a distracted or aggressive driver can kill ya, but it seems to me that a distracted or aggressive cyclist can still fuck you up pretty badly, and as a percentage by vehicle type I'm noticing a lot more of the latter lately

We have actual numbers on car vs bike caused deaths/injuries, and they're different by about four orders of magnitude. So this is absolutely an issue of your irrational fears - like schools that run active shooter drills, the solution here is for you to get over it.

I would also not like to be maimed, though? Christ, y'all are sociopaths.

Bikes also very rarely maim people (although harder to get hard stats for that). I wouldn't like to be maimed by a bike, but I also wouldn't like to be shot by a neonazi on a shooting spree. I could easily scare myself by both possibilities, but I'd rather trust the stats.

I don’t want to get maimed by mustaches. Seems like it could happen, and I’m scared by it. So - stop the mustaches.

My roommate was very recently nearly struck by a cyclist accelerating down a hill through a red light as we began to cross on our walk signal. Missed him by inches. I don't know what part of your brain you have to shut down to think that's an imaginary danger.

At no point have I suggested that cyclists are more dangerous than drivers. At no point have I suggested that people stop commuting by bike. The weird tribalism that's leading you folks to strawman me while implying that a crowbar on wheels can't hurt you is just beyond belief
