They weren't misguided. They'd spent time honing a skill and they felt entitled to make a good living doing it. If you built a machine that could do what they could do, they wanted it gone. Understandable. Selfish, but understandable. Glad they failed, unapologetically.
It may help you to understand that I don't come from the sort of family or have the sort of education that plenty of people think entitles them to something better than I get. Understandable. But they better keep their goddamn hands off of what I'm building.

It's a rare person who is doing well *and* wants to endure the sort of game-breaking competition that will most likely cause them to do less well, even if it's clearly better for lower-skill workers and everyone who needs basic goods. But *those guys* are the heroes.
