There's free will and there's "the problem of free will" and the second definition assumes that there is a mind-body dualism in humans - as if their minds are disembodied from the physical universe. Without that mythos, free will just means globs of matter with agency.

Sam always struck me as one of those people that is so nice and cooperative they can be hard to get along with from all the bending over backwards to be nice. That he also breaks people's minds is one of the better compensations for that one could ask for!
