If you see someone you admire from a blog, Twitter, etc. at a conference/party... Say hi! They expect to meet people. This is true if they have an audience of 5k, 50k or 500k+ But do try not to immediately put them on a pedestal. Don't present yourself as less-than; you're not.

Easier said than done though. Sometimes the impact *is* far beyond the intention, due to personal circumstances, and that leads to idolizing the author. Hard to "keep it together" when facing them. Even you had tweets that hit me directly enough I'd probably be flustered irl.

It can be hard! But I've met a lot of people who are much better-known than myself, e.g.
@SamHarrisOrg &@patrickc, and I think they're far more interested in finding friends/collaborators/fellow thinkers than most would assume. Adoration can get in the way. You're cool! Do you! - Show replies
