      Agree with this 💯. The active shooter drills are an outrage and we should stop doing them.       Just saying, if you actually think public schools are such dangerous places that children need to be taught to hide from a homicidal maniac the same way they're taught to evacuate in case of a fire, maybe you shouldn't jail people for refusing to send their kids there

      Although I'm totally against shooter drills in schools, are fires actually that much more common that they need to be prepared for? My understanding is fires are also super rare.

      After the research the answer definitely seems to be "no" the last structural school fire that killed someone was in 1958. So although I'm totally for ditching shooter drills, we should probably start ditching fire drills too.

      I don't know how useful the drills are, whether their ubiquity has prevented non-deadly fires from being deadly, etc. I'm just much less concerned about them because the mindset for managing a non-agenty danger is very different from the mindset of hunted prey

          As far as I can tell deaths have fallen due to better building standards etc. Not due to better evacuation procedure. But yes the agency of shooter drills is much more traumatic
