Whether one thinks a kid is a prodigious activist or a tool of unscrupulous adults tends to depend on how closely the sign the kid's holding matches one's personal politics. At the end of the day, the kid is standing there because a legal guardian didn't say "you're grounded."
I would be quite comfortable with some reduction in the age of voting — and a lot more comfortable with 18 & 19 year olds voting — if children in our society were woven into public life in a much less restrictive manner much earlier on
You can see an instance of the process of reciprocal extremism that’s affecting so much right now. The political utility of children creates demand to treat them either as super-adults or moral cargo, and the idea of childhood as subordinate but dignified and valuable disappears.
I think kids would make *better* decisions pertaining to schooling than adults, because they're both experientially much closer to it and because they are currently + for some time the direct consumers. But on just about everything else they've been forced out of those roles
