You’re right, and that blindness is because most of us are implicated in the petroleum system, unlike the blackmail/trafficking system or whatever JE was up to. But aren’t you doing whataboutism here?
I think "whataboutism" isn't an unreasonable criticism to level here, but I think it's vital — especially now — to notice where our attention is being drawn and where it isn't, and what that implies about the norms we're being guided toward and those we're being led to ignore

That’s interesting - do you feel there’s some theatricality here? Intentional misdirection? Also please forgive me for using “whataboutism” which is more of a propaganda term. I too am often frustrated with an emotion-driven agenda, baby seals before ocean salinity, etc.
