I realize that this is an abrasive thing to say, but I see this corrosive mindset everywhere. (Your schools are terrible? Put your kids there anyway.) It's not wrong to put your own mask on first before assisting the passenger nearest you, and then them before the other rows.

Isn't that tweet calling for equal action on both fronts, not condemning advocating for self-defense?

This is also factually wrong. If a would be rapist only learns about your defense after he strikes that deters people from raping at all.
-
It's factually wrong in many, many ways. A would-be rapist who is repeatedly thwarted causes less harm with a very real possibility of facing jail time before they can. And there are a number of strategies & e.g. wearables that are accessible to especially vulnerable populations

When you tell people not to carry cash like this, you're not reducing pickpocketing. You're just saying "let them pick the pocket of someone more vulnerable."pic.twitter.com/OVtgfxtnuG

"When you lock your doors you don't reduce robbery, you just say 'rob someone more vulnerable'"

and it's not like there's zero truth to that statement, right, i'm sure we can all agree on that one -- it reduces the targetable cross-section but it does still also increase the focus on the new reduced cross-section. so sure there's a coordination problem afoot
