I think that at that point, of the many categories any person could reasonably belong to, we're discussing the wrong set of categories (pedophile vs non-pedophile being the more worthy-of-discussion set).

"Transwomen can be sexual predators, too!" is a very bad choice of hill to die on re: a case where someone has clearly been using gender identity to photograph children in bathrooms and exploit the local justice system for financial gain. It's not hard to connect the dots, here.

Maybe I'm getting caught up on your use of "lay claim to". IMO(!) saying that this person can't be [relevant category] because of obviously awful things not relevant to the category is a 'no-true-scotsman' type thing - an attempt at purification. (1/2)

It’s not no-true-Scotsman if Yaniv is a faker.

I feel like asking "is this person a faker" is going to be fairly difficult for a category that has few observable traits and for which the community very much seems to want people taken at their word whether they belong or not.

Maybe Yaniv meets this bar anyways, but my initial (! not super well-informed) scan would be that there are plenty of valid explanations for how Yaniv could both be truly transgendered while seeking to exploit that in harmful ways deserving of condemnation.

It’s possible, but to me it feels really unlikely. The open fetishizing Yaniv broadcasts seems to me totally incongruous in a context of dysphoria. I’m FTM and know a lot of trans people, so obviously I could be wrong but I have more experience than average. 1/

(Trans people outside of activist groups and twitter are by and large not supportive of self ID being the only requirement btw.) But my original point was just that saying Yaniv is a faker isn’t necessarily a purity thing-maybe he is trans and a predator but I don’t buy it.

Fair. Thanks for the perspective.

It's impossible to know whether Yaniv is stretching the truth or lying, but it *is* possible to lie about something like gender ID or sexuality. It's not unreasonable to be suspicious of someone who has been using that to gain access for predatory and exploitative behavior

In any case, I feel *extremely* hesitant to use she/her pronouns for Yaniv — frankly, it feels disrespectful to the trans people I know who are *clearly* expressing something true about themselves and not using others' trust in self-ID to wreak havoc for personal gain
