For me, it was instructive how long it took anyone to notice that I was *severely* nearsighted. As most know, 20/20 is considered normal vision. -1 diopters = 20/40; -6 diopters = 20/500. I was mediocre but hacky-OK at most of what was required of me before I got my first pair of glasses. I could read & survey my own writing if I looked closely. But getting those glasses was like heaven x an acid trip. I had *no* *idea* what I was missing

I did the same, but to a lesser degree, as my eyesight wasn't quite that bad. Laser eye surgery was one of the decisions that I made that I'm happiest about.
