I sometimes see these kids in Singapore too, chatting people up on the train. Exactly as you describe. I found myself liking them too. There’s a non-neediness and non-pushiness that’s refreshing
If you want to rely on anything that starts wirh "traveling across the world," I'm going to take issue with it, because I think that's irrelevant and a genuinely dangerous starting point. If we get down to what's being spread, I'm sure we largely agree.

Ah, I think I see where you got the foreign nationals thing from. “Traveling across the world” was just about how large and dedicated these programs can be (as with Mormons), and how far from simply getting into conversations about ideas. Not about foreigners or crossing borders.
