yeah I don’t fundamentally like it either - just that the bar for decency is so low, that ^

I don't honestly see what the problem is with spreading your ideas across continents — to me it still hinges on the quality of ideas? Otherwise it seems like a really shitty version of pseudo-antipaternalism to think "this culture shouldn't be interfered with"

“This culture shouldn’t be interferes with” I think is a statement similar to “don’t interrupt people” or “don’t be a reply guy”. It’s an attempt to minimise negative outcomes that also minimises positive outcomes. If you’re sensitive and artful about it you can dance around this

To my mind, yes. But I still think for most it hinges on the quality of ideas. e.g. "You must allow your girls to read!" will be considered heroic in a western context, while "would you like to hear about Jesus?" is considered overstepping by many

Yeah and I think it’s not because Jesus wasn’t a cool dude but more because there’s a lot of historical suspicion around the legacy of prior Jesus fans. Kinda like how people get suspicious of men who love kids. It‘s a bummer but that’s the state of the game we’ve inherited

Can we at least agree that there are some things that could feasibly be taught by outsiders that have broadly good effects, others that have broadly bad effects, and that this isn't contingent on nation of origin?
