Just got caught by Mormon missionaries to Oakland. Honestly cannot find a harsh word for these folks. "You guys nailed it on architecture."

"Do you believe in God?" "I do not, nope." "Right on." I mean I'm not becoming a Mormon but I could learn so much from these people re: not starting bar fights

I sometimes see these kids in Singapore too, chatting people up on the train. Exactly as you describe. I found myself liking them too. There’s a non-neediness and non-pushiness that’s refreshing

I have a hard time viewing “travel across the world spreading your religion explicitly” as non-pushy, even when cool about it in the micro level. I’d like to be more open to it... I think I have a visceral reaction against evangelism (w/any worldview but religion is most common)

I don't honestly see what the problem is with spreading your ideas across continents — to me it still hinges on the quality of ideas? Otherwise it seems like a really shitty version of pseudo-antipaternalism to think "this culture shouldn't be interfered with"

“This culture shouldn’t be interferes with” I think is a statement similar to “don’t interrupt people” or “don’t be a reply guy”. It’s an attempt to minimise negative outcomes that also minimises positive outcomes. If you’re sensitive and artful about it you can dance around this
