I sometimes see these kids in Singapore too, chatting people up on the train. Exactly as you describe. I found myself liking them too. There’s a non-neediness and non-pushiness that’s refreshing
"Praying" is a skill to those who believe that there is a god and very real consequences for belief or lack thereof. I'm not asking you to cede your takes on what ought be done. I'm asking you to step into another's shoes & consider what wide-ranging norms make sense from there.

I’m aware, my dad’s a priest :) And I agree praying is a skill to believers; the distinction I’m making is not about skill vs no-skill, or belief in spiritual stakes. But that 1) reading is measurable with or without belief 2) arguments against reading are often tied to abuse
