I’m not sure I agree the degree to which it’s consensual. eg, I‘d probably even attend a comparative religion course or debate. But if that same professor shows up at my house, I’m suddenly much less into it. Especially if there’s a dark history behind TAs showing up at houses…
Q: should someone show up door to door and offer to teach the children of the house to read, or is that overstepping?

So I like that you’re trying to separate the idea from the evangelism in the abstract, but I don’t think this does it. For one, I do think Visa’s “artfulness” factors in, and you describe an artful version I’d be ok with. Still “pushy” but fine.

I'm very pro being artful, conscientious, culturally aware. I just want there to be some consideration before setting hard and fast norms that, upon reflection, don't really reflect anyone's values or the best interests of external populations
