Hmm, I think that there's an argument that elderly care is not a net positive endeavour for the government (especially considering the expense involved vs the diminshed productivity).

I am in favour of longevity research, but with the understanding that we aim to prolong productive life and not just life in general. Extending life spans by an extra 20 years is not that good if individuals are very infirm for those final years.
