I see it as akin to creating a purely procreative culture around love & sex. One could imagine a society w decent reasons for this — ultimately, isn't procreation the point? To suggest that under such a program love and sexuality are not only reduced, but rendered necessarily qualitatively different from what those words used to mean is a sort of anti-empirical woo. At best you'll be ridiculed, at worst labeled dangerous, an enemy of healthy babies

This is what I think has happened and is happening to "imagination." The word no longer denotes the thing we have forgotten how to do. We entertain proposals to boost "imagination" by upping funding to massive, already-well-funded bureaucracies. We chide each other for dreaming.
