To suggest that under such a program love and sexuality are not only reduced, but rendered necessarily qualitatively different from what those words used to mean is a sort of anti-empirical woo. At best you'll be ridiculed, at worst labeled dangerous, an enemy of healthy babies

This is what I think has happened and is happening to "imagination." The word no longer denotes the thing we have forgotten how to do. We entertain proposals to boost "imagination" by upping funding to massive, already-well-funded bureaucracies. We chide each other for dreaming.

If the focus was on well-raised babies we would be more concerned about the future they grow up in. If anything, it seems like we're biologically predisposed towards short term thinking.

How much of the desire for pleasure comes from the experience of anguish? More than anything I worry about the atmosphere of fear and non-belief leading to escapism and decay.
