I think the way to sell him on it would be to point out how useful it would be later to condition generations of children to listen to his voice as a source of wisdom and authority.

I think he's made a couple offhand jokes about hypothetically creating from the ground up a new religion without the dogma problems of existing ones. But you're probably right. He'd probably think it was a bad idea.
