Of course, this doesn't *necessarily* imply that there is anything *you* can do to alter your own or your child's IQ trajectory. And it certainly doesn't imply anything about *what* you would do. But it certainly leaves the ground there fertile
When you add the usual caveat around causation/correlation, it starts to seem unlikely you’re even measuring a real “attribute” as opposed to a statistical artifact.
Hard to tell a story, based on genes+environment, of how the extreme cases could happen. Then do the same for 7.5 billon points.
Experience in problem solving builds ability to solve other problems. That's what is important. Ability can be improved.
It's very very important to remember that IQ doesn't measure "intelligence" as colloquially understood, but certain kinds of problem-solving ability over a very short timescale. This is useful for some things but can't be used to do anything like rank-ordering "smartness"
IQ changes in the direction of biological parents as you grow up, quite a solid finding from studying adopted children. That is also why psychometricians are not very impressed by studies showing big environmental influence in children. It’s been known for decades.
There's no question that IQ is heritable, pretty strongly so, but that's obviously not the same thing as it being "fixed."
