I really dislike "self-care" culture, not because I think it's too indulgent but because it often feels like it's framing the relationship a person should have with themselves like that of a chronically ill patient + a live-in nurse

If anything, "self-care" isn't indulgent *enough.* It'd be reeeally indulgent to quit your job & take on an entirely new career, move somewhere you've always wanted to live or find a life partner who is actually nice to you most of the time

I'd say most people do need a live-in-nurse equivalent structure and are lucky if implementing one inside their head is sufficient.
