I think people tidy up their own lives far too much for the sake of producing an offering much more readily accepted than this one. The truth is that we all tell stories about ourselves that we try to tie into a cohesive narrative, and it's usually messier than that

Yeah, I think we tend to edit out the parts of our pasts and ourselves that we don't perceive as socially acceptable or narratively coherent, especially pertaining to some aspect of personal identity, which can include lots of things that aren't necessarily "bad"
