I just don't know how people come to believe the major components of our economic system can be decoupled If I imagine a world in which corporations are actually doing everything they can to mitigate climate change, beef is like $25/lb & air conditioning, anywhere, is a rarity

There've been a lot of interesting early stage upstarts in this space & the capital is hungry for it. The upside is obviously immense. But thusfar, they fizzle out. This is a really, really tough technical problem, and we like to *believe* we can get answers on demand for those.

The US in particular has a lot of hydroelectric stations to be turned into "virtual pumped storage". Turn off generation when wind+solar produce an excess, ramp up when there is a shortfall. The latter part requires installing more capacity, but doesn't touch the expensive dam.
