the way I see it sure you could throw some fraction in jails, but unless something more fundamental is done about the wave of drug use (a lot of it being self-medication), e.g. access to psychiatrists and antipsychotics in particular, seems mostly symbolic to me
Easy to say when it's not your bike or package that's stolen, your window smashed in. It's not just the violation. A lot of people are struggling here. The wealthy can protect their stuff. I cried when a package I couldn't really afford was ripped open while I was working.

I don't. I don't think it is just that someone stole from me. I don't think it would have been just even if it was a theft I could financially bear. There's a reason I didn't respond by grabbing the nearest unwatched box on a neighbor's porch.
