Well I guess what I don't understand is why we have a moral obligation to save "the cute things" over the other ones? I feel like there's kind of a "first do no harm" application here.

Not trying to be combative when I use the term "morality" and apologize for directing it towards you but "embodiment of fuzzy innocence" is kind of what I'm talking about. They're animals in an ecosystem and their cuteness to us shouldn't really factor into eco significance.
My honest best guess is that you saw a tweet from a blonde girl in a pink dress that had some reference to bunnies in it and your brain literally cannot escape its own stupid assumptions
