Wouldn’t call it a conspiracy. That makes it sound much more sinister than it actually is, as if they actually want it to have negative consequences. The only consequences they worry about is the clicks their article gets. If it has a negative impact,they won’t lose sleep over it
I think you're completely wrong here, but I do have to give some credit for the creativity required to come to this conclusion. I invite you to consider what Quillette could have done, short of time travel, to lead you to consider landing anywhere else.

Thankfully opinions aren’t facts. But it doesn’t make sense to praise an insane news organisation which wrote a ridiculous article & had absolutely atrocious levels of fact checking to begin with. The Quantum of criticism should definitely be more than the “praise” they deserve
.... I believe the mysterious words you are looking for are "fact checking" Or maybe "cease existing" . Both work. In between is "Do real Journalism" but no one seriously expects that.
