They knew the article would provoke reactions. And it did. Now that it has generated enough traffic, they issue a retraction, to boost their credibility. Sounds cynical I know, but their past articles & statements don’t warrant a lot of benefit of doubt lol

Wouldn’t call it a conspiracy. That makes it sound much more sinister than it actually is, as if they actually want it to have negative consequences. The only consequences they worry about is the clicks their article gets. If it has a negative impact,they won’t lose sleep over it
