Cannot begin to describe how short-sighted and frankly stupid a human being needs to be to join a pile-on for a timely & well-publicized retraction, regardless of how little they might think of the publication. Take 30 seconds to think through the implications, ffshttps://twitter.com/clairlemon/status/1159614691385040896 …

The timely retraction was an unalloyed good, but, publishing that article in the first place is completely worth calling out. They skipped all the fact checking because the article stroked every single one of their ideological priors.
-
100% valid criticism. While they deserve credit for the retraction itself and drawing attention to that retraction, a proper mea culpa about the serious editorial mistake would be nice.

Good point. But the swiftness of the publishing of the article & retraction makes it look like a gimmick to get attention. A more credible website would’ve gotten some benefit of doubt
-
I'm unclear on what you're suggesting: is it that they themselves wrote the article and then retracted it?

Hmm I think we can rewind a bit from this and speculate. Pile ons killed retractions. This is an attempted Resurrection. Can we really expect society behavior to evolve quickly enough to produce a change in results? Your idea is good, probably just doomed. Baby has dropped.

Everyone knows the last time they saw this much gloating about a retraction. It was in the pages of Quillette about Sokal Squared.

^^ Can't Tell if you are viciously eviscerating Quillette s entire business model and Raison D'etre, Or you are hypocritically blowing chaff for people which are expecting all the OTHER fraudulent articles to get pulled.
