Also pretty sure he is wrong on the effectiveness of condoms at preventing both of these. They are not perfect but still are pretty effective if used correctly.
They're not very effective re: some infections transmitted via skin-to-skin contact — last I saw, genital herpes transmission is reduced by something like 30%. Don't know re syphilis. But they're highly effective against a broad range & *any* reduction is a win across populations

Right, they are not very effective for Herpes or HPV(~50% when I last looked). They're still p effective against syphilis(70-80%) and very effective(90+% against fluid based STDs(HIV, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea). Notably also the most significant STDs are the ones condoms prevent best

Yeah, people should be aware that they should still get checked out on a regular basis, but condoms give an insanely good bang-for-buck risk reduction
