Depending on the big city, $150,000 is no where near upper class. In many, it's struggle middle class.

Yeah, I said "middle/upper middle class" because there's a lot of variability re: cost of living in major cities. Some would make you a pretty typical member of the middle class, others would definitely put you on the upper end of the range

Took a while to parse this question---a distinctly American notion of class is on display here.

Anyway, I'm not sure what my answer would be.

It’s not about the class, it’s about all the side projects I could work on in the meantime thanks to the money surplus

No interest in an upper class lifestyle, but the lower living expenses of a small town would free up money for other things (like throwing at all the GoFundMes that come across twitter).

A nice house, and all the books I need to build my dream library.

Would rather live in small town but would also prefer not to be high income/status due to social divisions.

My dream is to make enough money to/get some job opportunity to relocate to a small town.

Moving to the small town. Growing up in a small town was a blessing. I’m sure it’s fine growing up in a city, but the freedom I had relative to city kids is unparalleled.
