Endgame for compulsory education that insists we be "well-rounded" in our ability to run a set of familiar computations rather than polymathic in our ability to generate new ones. We're actively fighting a maker culture that would otherwise emerge naturally in these conditions

This feels like saying all a desktop pc can do is browse Facebook... People *can* do CAD there but most don’t. Do you have anything in mind? I can think of many interesting uses (both existing and potential) but they’re mostly niche, except maybe AR. Few pervasive like maps.

I feel there are many more people with software dev competency than with both software & hardware. I wonder how much this constrains the creation space. Many can make apps, but fewer can make, or even imagine, ones that interact with the physical world in interesting ways.

Too hard to make a business out of it? With the expectation of apps being free, lack of free trials until very recently, heavy App Store cut, more profit in exploiting people via IAPs, etc
