Perhaps ironically, I have a friend who worked in background checking who told me that one of their major recruitment areas (especially before outsourcing) was women at home with kids. It was work that fit their schedules and could be done online/by phone in short bursts.

Programming achieved this by giving people tools to develop AND demonstrate their value from home. Those tools opened floodgates the industry still hasn't gotten its head around handling. I look for opportunities like that in every industry now. AirBnB and Uber are like that.
