I think David’s view of the moral importance of people can be found in dogs because dogs are the result of people. Technology in strange way. We took wolves and turned them into “people wolves” and so the reason we prefer dogs to wolves is the residue of people-ness.

I just find the thought fascinating since it's so counter-intuitive, as you say. And just to be clear: I love animals and would rather edge on the side of caution than the other way around.
