How do you view the arguments made by David Deutsch among others that animals don't have morally significant sentience i.e. is simply genetically determined automata that can´t suffer?

I probably can't tell whether I'm projecting onto them, but the truth is that I'm not even capable of pretending that I'm unsure of their sentience. It's as apparent as sound or color. If I've been fooled so completely, David might find it funny that a dog managed to do that
