It's so strange to me how comfortable we are with telling the old that they're a burden who should choose death or have it chosen for them — For The Good of Society. People let these things fall out of their mouths with no thought at all, like accidental sometime-death cultists

I think the worst I've ever heard was something like "well, we would never have gotten gay marriage if the old religious folks hadn't died off!" I think I've even said stuff like this. Death is a horrifying thing. I don't think you should choose it for yourself. I especially don't think you should spread memes that encourage people to think of themselves, including their future selves, as burdens on society who are unworthy of life.
