This cadence for the pledge of allegiance: I pledge allegiance - to the flag - of the United States of America - and to the republic - for which it stands - one nation - under God - indivisible - with liberty and justice for all
-
-
You put pauses in the presence of commas. This isn't surprising at all. I don't see it as being scary. It's part of pride and identity with your nation
-
I don't feel like my pride is at all default or compulsory, and that's what makes it feasible for me

Should not force kids to recite a pledge. However, when I studied the Constitution and US History in 7th Grade, the pledge finally had meaning to me. "one nation - under God - indivisible" and "with liberty and justice for all" have a lot to do w/ the Civil War, ending slavery.

I always assumed this cadence was just done so that people could repeat after the speaker, not because it's how you do it in general when you already know it.

Everyone who was raised in a religion will say the major prayers with the same cadence too. Either just necessary to allow group recitation or attributable to memorizing the words too young to understand the content.
