This cadence for the pledge of allegiance: I pledge allegiance - to the flag - of the United States of America - and to the republic - for which it stands - one nation - under God - indivisible - with liberty and justice for all
-
-
Well, it was literally a marketing campaign to sell flags, so idk. We probably all know the Oscar Meyer jingles, too
-
Vogon poetry as marketing campaign, pretty good

I always assumed this cadence was just done so that people could repeat after the speaker, not because it's how you do it in general when you already know it.

You put pauses in the presence of commas. This isn't surprising at all. I don't see it as being scary. It's part of pride and identity with your nation
-
I don't feel like my pride is at all default or compulsory, and that's what makes it feasible for me
