Minneapolis up-zoned to triplex to confront its housing shortage & reduce segregation.
Oregon just up-zoned to fourplex.
Now it’s California’s turn.
Let’s get it done.

This is the issue as s former Councilmember who faced long time single family homeowners who opposed all development. Right now that has been infill and near transit. But if a speculator tore down the house next door with a fourplex, and 8 cars, you will have a suburban revolt.
-
Single family homeowners oppose development because they wanted their neighborhoods to remain “single family.” Obviously road capacity isn’t an issue or they wouldn’t have built homes for people in the first place

Whether these new owners can get around, they will change neighborhood character dramatically even if the traffic counts for each new fourplex doesn’t trigger any CEQA mitigation. Best to have bus or light rail connecting to BART or ferries or Google or Facebook buses in place.
-
The homeowners shouldn’t have a say and should live with the expectation that a three decker or four plex may be in their neighborhood and plan infrastructure accordingly
