Ma'am. Look at that photo. Tell me that you believe that what has been done to that man's face is harmless. Or tell me that it's harmless when it's *him,* but not you or I. If your face looked like that, I would not mock you for overplaying your injuries.

The injuries are what they are. Someone who can say it's harm when it's *this* battered face — but not *that* battered face — will happily defend a friendly monster. Any abused person is familiar with such excuses. Ask one whether it's okay when you make them.
