I def agree, and your pov makes me think that mine is little too realpolitik. And now that I think about it, college prep seems like a sorta insidious rationalization of the fly lord treatment that the majority of parents have internalized without too much thought

Feel free to ignore this cause I'm just gonna spitball into the void for a sec. Maybe the problem of the fly lord scenario as Aella describes it, emerges from the bundling of childcare and education. bc to do mass childcare, there's gonna be demographic segregation

and the econ incentive for schools incentivizes keeping as many kids in school for as long as possible so you don't try to treat them like people who could be competent enough to transcend the need for k-12.
