During his testimony, @coldxman noted that we *should* make reparations to living individuals directly harmed by Jim Crow. IMO, this is the reparations conversation that we need to have, including e.g. teachers and students harmed by willful mishandling of school integration

Many black teachers lost their jobs because they were assumed to be less competent or a poor "fit" for white-turned-integrated schools. And there's enough evidence to demand a close look at whether opportunities were systemically withheld from black students in many districts

We need to have nuanced conversations about race & prior wrongs respectfully & in good faith. And IMO, if we're to allow ourselves to move on from immense wrongdoings generations past, we have to commit to consistently addressing direct harms while those affected are still living
