There is a very charitable read of this claim that sorta makes sense. If you um think of "patterns" as surviving across time through a combo of cultural and genetic material, then it is possible to kill that wave-like-being, while still creating more apes
You can kill a meme this way, and many memes (including very useful ones) *have* died this way, but it's far trickier to defend the idea that the computational mass inside your head can be genetically modified to never host a meme like that again
