I've definitely noticed that in the places I've lived, the higher the housing costs the higher the age people are when they had kids and the less kids they have

I reject supernatural explanations, but it is pretty amazing to see in *some* church communities how what you are describing is exactly what the norms are. There’s a community/family-focused mission that’s lacking in other communities. But, yea, some very poor explanations too.
