I generally agree with your sentiment, Mason. An important caveat, though: - The diagram ignores kurtosis of risk. For instance, terrorism is fat-tailed (ie. disproportionate risk of disproportionate effect) so its lethality of <0.01% does not give an accurate pic of its danger.
-
Howdy. Not at all sure what you mean here, unless you're pointing out that terrorism often yields enormous secondary losses (eg, increased screening at airports). But those secondary effects are plausibly under our control and excessive news coverage only increases those effects.

Great graphic. Most of the actual causes of death are either highly related to old age or automobile accidents.

I wonder how much of that news coverage on terrorism is focused on terrorism outside of the US.

Big thing there is also how big heart disease is, knowing that *cancer* is a collection of diseases and heart disease just one. If someone solves heart disease we are in for a ride
-
Lets do it! Although both cancer and heart disease, along with several other listed causes of death, are due to one thing: aging. As I understand it, one’s risk of heart disease and cancer both skyrocket with age, so solving just one doesn’t increase life expectancy by much.
