Between multi-hour car/plane commutes, the Tent City Shuffle, the worst property crime rates in the US, and streets unsafe for cyclists + pedestrians, SF is a human welfare & environmental *disaster.* It's a city that plays at an identity it absolutely does not deserve to claim.

The whole region needs to wake up; the idea of the SFBA as a green, diverse, or immigrant-friendly area is a social aesthetic — often a frustratingly self-righteous one — and not a defensible frame on present reality. It's all too often delusional rather than aspirational.

The fact that this happens is not a failure of SF Bay Area policies, it's a failure to price externalities. In fact, I'd argue that anecdotes like these suggest the problem is less with the Bay and more with California and America in general.
