One of the tricky meta-skills of mastery is something like "finding mentorship with chemistry." I think this is format-neutral; you can find chemistry (or not) w/ an expert-friend, author, podcaster. Better to learn from a real master, but it's *magic* when you feel the "click"

(Maybe this is why so many textbooks suck? In the interest of accessibility(?), any hint of individual tone, tangents, asides, personal examples, etc. are completely stripped. You get the feeling you're not meant to connect, but only receive. The social animal is left hungry.)

In law school I got a terrible grade in legal writing with a professor who refused to answer questions, showed up 45 minutes late to meetings, threatened to throw people out of the office, etc. 6 years later I’m largely a legal writing specialist. You have to find your niche.
